Crevice Erosion

Crevice erosion (or crevice corrosion) type of concentration-cell corrosion of a metal that is caused by the concentration of dissolved salts, metal ions, oxygen or other gases in crevices or pockets remote from the principal fluid stream. The result is a build up of differential cells that ultimately cause deep pitting. Crevice corrosion typically occurs in small spaces or gaps, while pitting corrosion typically occurs on the surface of a metal.
