In the weekend opener at Basingstoke, a back and forth local derby where neither side ever held a multi goal lead ended the same way the game was played, back and forth in penalties before the Bison clinched the extra point, and a 5-4 win, with a pair of goals in the tiebreaking session to overcome a Flames single.

Telford Tigers logo Tigers captain Jason Silverthorn insists it is “business as usual” for his players, as they look to secure the English Premier League title this weekend.

Telford need just one point from their games against Peterborough and Basingstoke, to be mathematically certain of winning their first championship in 27 years.

Second-placed Guildford Flames are 13 points adrift of The Tigers, and would also need to take maximum points to keep the title race alive.

"A bit dreamy" PDF Print E-mail

Sunday, 01 March 2015 12:21

Telford Tigers logo Wayne Scholes confessed to feeling “a bit dreamy” after watching The Tigers secure the English Premier League title against Peterborough Phantoms on Saturday night.

The Red Hockey CEO was the team’s stick boy when they last won a league title in 1988, and returned in 2013 to help with the rebuilding process.

That growth took another step forward on Saturday with a 5-4 success at Bretton Road, giving Telford an unassailable lead at the top of the standings.

'Cats Blow Out The Bees PDF Print E-mail

Swindon Wildcats logo Last Saturday night the Swindon Wildcats saw out February in great style, after defeating the Bracknell Bees to string back to back wins together.

The night's affairs open with an energetic start however when the hosts were handed an early powerplay, the 'Cats soon went about claiming the game's first. It would take a wristshot from the in-form Aaron Nell who from the blue line, would beat a screen of players and with it Alex Mettem in net. But when the Bees were handed a powerplay themselves just minutes later, young forward Vanya Antonov would claim the visitor's tying goal with a close range tip in.

Telford Tigers logo Tigers defenceman Jonathan Weaver wants a relaxed approach to this weekend’s crucial English Premier League showdowns.

A single point from Saturday’s trip to Peterborough – or Sunday’s visit of Basingstoke – would guarantee The Tigers their first league title since 1988.

Weaver, who won a string of titles during a career at the top level of British ice hockey, has been impressed by his side’s low-key approach to training this week.
