Swindon Wildcats logo Swindon Wildcats netminder Stevie Lyle has been handed his latest call-up to the full GB side after the experienced Welshman was added to the roster who will take part in the sides Pre-Olympic Qualifiers.

He is joined by Nottingham Panthers defenceman Sam Oakford, Belfast Giants forward Mark Garside and Coventry Blaze forward Ross Venus, all of whom are replacing netminder Stephen Murphy, defenceman Jonathan Weaver and forwards Matt Haywood and Robert Farmer.

Former Wildcats bench-coach Pete Russell now in charge of the GB Senior side, named his original 22-man roster back on January 14, however Lyle has now been added to the roster who will take on Italy, Netherlands and Serbia in Cortina between February 11 to February 14.

The announcement marks the second occasion that the player has received a GB call-up since joining the Wildcats in ahead of the 2013-14 campaign and means he will be absent from this weekend's Wildcats games against Basingstoke Bison [Friday February 12], MK Lightning [Saturday February 13] and our Cardwave sponsored The Perfect Match Valentine's Day themed game against the Bison on Sunday February 14.

Speaking about the changes, GB Head Coach Russell said: "It is unfortunate to lose four players, but there's always a chance that could happen.

"We have depth in British players at the moment and you have to be prepared for this situation.

"Some experienced players and younger players are now getting a chance.

"Stevie Lyle will be one of the most experienced players on the roster, while Mark has lots of experience at this level.

"Sam and Ross are two exciting players and I am delighted all four players accepted last-minute calls-ups.

"I like the look of our squad and we still have quality throughout."

Speaking after the news was announced, Wildcats player-coach Aaron Nell said: "We are all very happy for Stevie with his call-up.

"He is a great goalie and has been nothing short then exceptional this season.

"We all wish him and the rest of the team the best of luck for the upcoming tournament."

Forward Tomasz Malasinski will also be unavailable for the Cats fixtures, having been called up to the Polish national side for their games against Estonia, Lithuania and Hungary in the same qualifying competition.
