Swindon Wildcats logo Swindon Wildcats head coach Ryan Aldridge has confirmed that star forward Aaron Nell has left the Elite League Sheffield Steelers in order to remain at the Swindon Ice Arena for the 2014-15 season.

Speaking after all the paperwork had been completed in a new one-year deal, the 24-year old, who has racked up a massive 356 points from the 220 Premier Leagues games he has featured in to date, said: "I'm extremely happy to be coming back to the club on a permanent basis."

"Sheffield was a very difficult situation," he continued. "Before I came back to Swindon, it was a very long year and it didn't quite work out, but that's how it goes sometimes in hockey.

"It's happened and I'm back at a very exciting time for the club.

"The start of last season [with the Steelers] started okay but then it didn't quite go to plan.

"I was sitting there and not doing much so there was no point me sitting up there not playing when I could be back in Swindon helping and it was good how it all ended [with the Wildcats] getting to Coventry and that was success in itself.

"Now we have to take it a step further, we can't just be happy with getting to the Playoff Finals, we have to start winning things."

Indeed, with the Wildcats enjoying their best campaign for a long time, Nell was quick to highlight the turning point in the clubs fortunes.

"After Christmas we came good as a team and had a really good end to the season. "It's a great team and next season is going to be exciting.

"We want to move that post-Christmas form over to the start of the year this time round and keep it going to the end of the season. Over the last few years the team has struggled leading up to Christmas and then got better afterwards, so we're looking to start off well and have a whole season of good form and that's what I know Ryan [Aldridge - head coach] is looking to achieve.

"I'm confident in what Ryan is doing here and the signings he already has with Jan [Kostal], Stevie [Lyle] and Alex [Symonds] and those in the pipeline, we're going to have a very good team."

Meanwhile, speaking on the signing Aldridge said: "It's great to have Aaron back at the club for next season.

"There's no doubt he's a fantastic player.

"We know the quality we're getting with Aaron and he knows what the club is all about so it's great to have another piece of the jigsaw in place for next season."
