Lyle & Symonds Confirm Second Season

User Rating:  / 0

Swindon Wildcats logo Head coach Ryan Aldridge has confirmed his second and third signings for the Wildcats 2014-15 EPL campaign with the news that netminder Stevie Lyle and D-man Alex Symonds will both be wearing the clubs jerseys in the new season.

The pair who both travel from Cardiff, managed 104 appearances between them last term and Aldridge admits that he was keen to get them both back on board for the new challenge.

"They are two top quality players and I'm delighted that they have both agreed to stay with the club for another season," he said after confirming the announcement on Wednesday evening.

"With Jan [Kostal] already signed up, we've now got three key players on the books from last year's team and I'm confident that we'll be in a position to make further announcements in the coming weeks."

Lyle (34), who signed a two-year deal when he joined the club last summer, recently told the Swindon Advertiser that he plans to retire after this campaign and intends to focus on coaching youngsters, confirmed that talks with Aldridge had been successful and that he will see out his career with the Wildcats.

"They were a bit of a formality really [the talks with Aldridge] as there wasn't too much to discuss as I wanted to be here at Swindon and Ryan wanted to keep me here.

"I enjoyed last season with the club and we had a really strong last couple of months and if we can keep a good solid core, I'm sure we can carry that on next season."

Speaking on signing his second year extension Symonds said: "I had one or two other offers but I always wanted to stay at the club.

"I like the direction it is heading and everyone has been really good to me.

"I've been treated really well since I joined last year and I wanted to stay, and I'm really happy that the club wanted me to stay.

"It's a class organisation and I genuinely think we'll go on and do even better next season."

Indeed, with Symonds having featured in five consecutive playoffs, the 25-year old Welshman is confident of making it six when the players take to the ice for the new round of games.

"I've only not made the playoffs once in my career so I'm confident we'll be there again next season and a good D-line is key to that success.

"The Wildcats quite often appear to be everyone's outside bet of picking up silverware, and agonisingly last season we just fell short of making the final.

"When you look at how we did after Christmas I know if the club can keep a good core of the squad together, we'll be even more confident next season.

"We won't have fear in our heads and we've proven that we have the consistency needed to put together the kind of performances that are needed and I'm expecting good things from the team and I'm sure we'll give the fans something to celebrate."
