Wightlink Raiders logoIn a move that has come as no surprise to many, management at Wightlink Raiders have today announced that they will be leaving the EPL and have applied to compete in the ENL starting next season.

In a statement on their website, the club cited a number of reasons for this decision including the current financial downturn and the potential problems of competing against a league which, with the addition of ex-Elite League teams Basingstoke Bison and Manchester Phoenix, is likely to be a much stronger league than in previous years.

In the press release, joint club director Geoff Underwood said “We owe it to the fans and the players to have a team that can compete and give good results on a regular basis, and without the extra financial support of a big sponsor, we simply cannot afford to run a team at this level”.

At the time of writing the fate of three other clubs is still in the balance with Bracknell Bees and Telford Tigers waiting on new ownership and Romford Raiders seemingly left out in the cold by the operators of their rink.
