Changes between the pipes

Slough Jets logo Following the most difficult start to the season for the last 10 years Jets Head Coach Slava Koulikov has acted to strengthen the team by making a change between the pipes which sees Gregg Rockman depart the club.

Gregg joined the Jets in 2009-10 and set about establishing himself as one of the league’s best netminders. He backstopped the Jets to the play-offs, cup and play-offs in his first three seasons. Returning for a fourth season he found life tougher and his stats showed a save percentage of just over .90 and a goals against average of 3.24, both of which were below the high standards he had set.

After a disappointing second half of last season the decision to re-sign Gregg Rockman was taken over the summer and it was impressed upon him the high expectations that the club had. A shaky start to the season saw Gregg suffer an injury which kept him out of action but after his return his stats failed to impress at a save percentage of .85 and a goals against of 5.32

This prompted Slava Koulikov to look into ways to strengthen the team and ultimately reach the tough decision to part with Gregg Rockman.

Slava Koulikov explained; “We all know that the goalie position in hockey is 50% of the team and Rocky has been that for many years. However, it's an area we've struggled for consistency since December last year. The club took a fresh view for the start of the new season and Rocky knew what was expected of him, and, even he would admit his form hasn't been as good as it could be. It's a difficult decision but we have to take the long term approach and do what's best for the team going forward.”

Further changes will be made with the release of defenceman Tomas Fojtik. The 6 foot 5 defenceman joined the Jets this summer from EPL rivals Swindon Wildcats but ill health kept him from some training sessions and early season games meaning he hasn’t as yet fitted in to the team in the way the team intended. The release of Tomas allows the club to re-structure it’s import allocation which again the Head Coach believes will make the Jets a stronger team.

Slava explained; “We have come into some good results over the last couple of weekends and I appreciate that these changes may seem strange but I have been constantly reviewing all areas of the team since the start of the season and I firmly believe that the changes we are announcing today will be of benefit to the team and make the team stronger and better placed to compete this season.”

In conclusion Slava added; “Nobody wants success in Slough more than myself and the owners and we're looking forward to building on our recent performances for next weekend.”

Both Gregg Rockman and Tomas Fojtik leave the club with immediate effect and wish the club’s thanks and best wishes.

The search continues for a top end British forward and a top end British defenceman but the Jets Head Coach will be announcing the new netminder tomorrow.
