Raiders Update

In recent weeks we've been looking for volunteers to provide news stories from clubs who don't currently provide us with press releases and we're pleased to introduce our first new contributor, Ryan Price:

The past few weeks have been very busy for the raiders. It all started a few weeks ago with the raiders manager Jesse Hammill leave the club to pursue a job back home in his native Canada, but before he went Jesse and the raiders management managed to secure the signatures of two more players to the line up.

First saw new import Darius Pliskauskas join from the Edinburgh Capitals. Darius missed a few games through injury during his spell with a broken finger but there have been no signs of injury in his four games for the raiders. In all of his games he has put at least 1 point up on the board. Next saw the return of 27 year old Tyrone miller to a raiders shirt. This year marks TY’s tenth year in a raiders shirt, a remarkable achievement that only a handful of people have achieved. Again another big asset to the line up which I am sure will help raiders try to get their season back on track. The day after the signing of Miller a new management was announced. It came in the shape of Erskine Douglas, a former player and coach of the raiders. Erskine in fact scored the very first ever raiders goal back in 1987.

That weekend it came up on the raiders forum that people had heard rumours that Andrew Munroe will be leaving the raiders in the next week. It was then on the Friday that those rumours came true and it was announced by the raiders management that he has left the club. Soon after it was announced on the Slough Jets website that Andy has joined the Jets for the rest of the remaining campaign. A raiders spokesman said that "He has never given less than 100% in his time here and we wish him well."

The day after it was announced that two Romford home grown players would be returning back down to RVW. First it was the return of young goaltender Charles Kaylor. Charles returned to raiders following a spell with the Slough Jets. Charles came through the Romford junior system before spending 4 years at Notre dame. Another home grown Romford talent that put pen to paper was young David Oliver. David is only 20 years old and has already had a decent hockey career. During his spell with the raiders in the 07-08 season David impressed the raiders coaches. Although only registering 1 goal and 2 assists his level of commitment to the club was very important and if you don’t have those types of players then you won’t get very far. The management team said that they wished to bring in more home grown Romford players and they have certainly done that in bringing in these two players.

Things are starting to look up for the raiders in getting their first away win of the season this weekend with a 3-4 win against the Sheffield Scimitars. Hopefully things will start to look up for the raiders and that this weekend is a possibility of things to come. Raiders can still make it to a playoff pot and that is their main goal for the rest of this season.
