Guildford Flames logo The Guildford Flames ice hockey club have released Finnish netminder Joonas Kuusela and British defenceman Rupert Quiney.

In 24 League and Challenge games so far this season, Quiney, a London native, had a pair of assists and 6 penalty minutes. The 6’4”, 225lb skater joined the club last season, and helped them to the Cup and Playoff “Double” haul following a League and Cup “Double” with Telford Tigers the year prior.

Rupert had a tough year last year with his injury problems, and we sent him for extensive treatment and a full rehab programme this past off season. We know he worked very hard on his post-surgical rehabilitation which makes this even more of a frustrating situation, but with the silver lining that he leaves here fully fit and ready to immediately help a new club. We wish him well as he moves forward in his career.”

Kuusela iced just short of 700 minutes with the club while posting 4 wins against 6 defeats and 2 shootout losses. The former Finnish Elite League netminder joined the side in late September and registered a 3.64 goals against average and an 88.4 save percentage across his stay.

“When we signed Joonas we also added Dean Skinns and took the view that we would get some different line up looks with the flexibility that the 3 goaltender roster offered in terms of how we managed the Non British trained line up on game night,” Dixon said. “At this point we are comfortable moving forward with Dean and Mike Will as our pairing, and will keep an open mind to other roster improvements we might now be able to make in follow up.”
