Bracknell Bees logo The Bracknell Bees are pleased to announce that Craig Moran will be joining the team as full time Bench/Assistant Coach for the forthcoming 2015/16 EPIHL campaign. Moran boasts an impressive coaching CV and has coached alongside some notable names in his time in the EPIHL.

Moran began his coaching career in the 2005/06 season as Assistant Coach to Andy Hannah with the Slough Jets and returned the following season under the club’s new Head Coach Steve Moria. In that time the Jets achieved second and third placed finishes in the EPIHL.

Whilst at the Bison he coached current Bees Scott Spearing & Tom Annetts and previously a young Carl Thompson at Slough too - so will be no stranger to the Bees players.

At the end of the 2009/10 season Craig left the Bison to return to his home town team Slough and was appointed Head Coach of the ENIHL Slough Jets gaining promotion in his first season. It wasn’t long until he returned to Slough EPIHL hockey though and for the next three season was Assistant Coach to three Jets head coaches Pete Russell, Doug Sheppard and Slava Koulikov.

In December 2013 Moran took the reigns as Head Coach of the EPIHL Slough Jets when Slava Koulikov left for the Peterborough Phantoms and saw the Jets final EPIHL season to conclusion. When the sad news came of the Jets leaving the EPIHL Moran was snapped up by Tony Hand and the Manchester Phoenix where he remained for two seasons and last season he was Assistant Coach at the EPIHL Playoff runners-up.

With a proven track record and experience as Assistant and Head Coach at both EPIHL and ENIHL levels Craig will be a welcome addition to the staff here at the Bracknell Bees.

Moran spoke of his delight at joining the Bees:
“It was a really great feeling when I was approached by Lukas Smital to be part of this season’s Bracknell Bees campaign. It is great to be back down south and continuing my coaching career.”

He continued:
“It was certainly a tough decision to leave the Manchester Phoenix after such an enjoyable season last year and also initially felt a little strange joining a side that has been such a big rival of my home town team. However I know just how great a place The Hive is on a match night and how good the atmosphere and crowd are there and I am really looking forward to being part of a great club with such a history behind it.”

In summing up Moran concluded:
“Having talked to Lukas about the direction the team is heading in and the exciting signings made this off season I am truly excited to be part of what I think will be a great season to come.”

Bracknell Bees Head Coach Lukas Smital commented on the addition of Moran to the Bees coaching team:
"I am delighted to have been able to add Craig to the Bees coaching team for this coming season. His undoubted experience throughout the EPIHL for a number of years will be of great value to the team and will play a big part in our coming campaign. Craig understands the direction the club is looking to move in and having spoken to him it is obvious he can't wait to get started on the new challenge this season brings. I would like to welcome him to the club and look forward to working with him."

General Manager of the Bracknell Bees Ben Beeching commented on the addition of Moran:
"In our exercise of deconstructing last season we looked at everything both on and off the ice, and we felt that a major piece of the puzzle that could be improved is the presence of a full-time bench and assistant coach. Craig is the perfect man for the job. He has accrued some great experience in the game with the Slough organisation and more recently Manchester. We feel that he'll bring a lot to the team and particularly to the development of the younger members of the squad, while offering strong support and a sounding block to Lukas, and also importantly to allow Lukas to focus on his own game on matchnights to some extent. I'm delighted to welcome Craig on board with the Bees and I look forward to working with him and being part of his contribution to the club's success."
