The fans' favourite will return for a third straight year with the team and will become only the ninth player in the club's history to reach 250 league appearances for the club next season.

He made his debut for the team way back in the days of the Heineken League Premier Division and came through Basingstoke's junior development.

The Southampton-born player was the last British player to play for the Bison in the Superleague and then played three campaigns in the British National League and helped the team to B&H Plate success - scoring in both finals.

The 34-year-old then departed to the English Premier League where he has now made over 550 appearances suiting up for Wightlink Raiders, Bracknell Bees, where he won a league and play-off double, and Swindon Wildcats.

He returned to the Bison in the autumn of 2013 and played his part in their double winning side. His experience is invaluable to the team and he certainly takes no prisoners out of the ice, which is a style of play he is not about to change.

Talking about his latest re-signing Bison Director of Hockey Doug Sheppard said: "Joe brings a lot of leadership to our defence and is a real key player for us. I like physical defencemen and he certainly fits the bill and is another great signing for us."

Baird said: "It was an easy decision to once again play for the Bison, but we want to make sure we improve on last season and win some silverware. With the signings we have already made we have a strong team and I see no reason why this cannot happen."
