Basingstoke Bison logo THE Paul Baldwin Agencies Basingstoke Bison are delighted to announce the re-signing of the hard hitting defenceman Declan Balmer.

The latest returnee was a solid member of Basingstoke’s blue line department and made a huge impression during his maiden campaign with the Stampede.

The 19-year-old, who was born in Hull, played in the EPL for the Peterborough Phantoms, before he joined the Bison.

Balmer returned a points tally of eight from 45 games last season, which included one goal, scored on a road trip to Chelmsford.

He also collected 91 minutes in penalties, but this was due to his rugged style of play.

As well as playing for the Herd, Balmer also helped Great Britain under-20s to a gold medal in Estonia, which was a great way to end his junior international career.

A delighted Bison player/coach Doug Sheppard said: ”Declan was another player I wanted to get back for this year, as I felt he was really good for us last season. He is still a young and we have not seen the best from him yet and I look forward to coaching him again this coming season.

Returning Declan Balmer said: “Last season I enjoyed my hockey in Basingstoke both on and off the ice, as there was really good atmosphere in the dressing room.

"We have already made some good signings and have the core of a very good team. I hope we can win some silverware for the fans this season.”
