Basingstoke Bison logo The Paul Baldwin Agencies Basingstoke Bison are delighted to announce the signing of top British forward Shaun Thompson.

The 27-year-old joins the Herd from the Manchester Phoenix, where he was their top British goal scorer last season as he netted 20 times in a 47 point tally.

The Slough-born player started his senior career in Basingstoke, in what was the inaugural season of the Elite League.

In his rookie year, Thompson became the youngest player to score in the top flight of British ice hockey for over a decade when only 16.

The forward was twice the Bison’s top British goal scorer in the Elite League, while also winning the EPIHL championship and play-off double with Bracknell.

He was part of the Slough Jets EPL Cup winning team which beat the Bison in 2011 and he then had three seasons with the Bracknell Bees.

Last season he was big part of the Manchester Phoenix team, which saw them finish runners-up in both English Challenge Cup and EPL play-offs.

Bison director of hockey Doug Sheppard said: “I have played with and against Shaun and know he is a player who will slot in well with the team we are building.”

Thompson is really pleased to be back with the Herd and said: “For me this is like coming home as this is where it all started for me. I have been impressed with the way the Bison play and now want to help them win trophies again.”
