Manchester Phoenix logo Phoenix travelled to Berkshire on Saturday evening to take on the Bracknell Bees, and twice came from behind to claim an excellent road win.

Bracknell started the brighter and opened the scoring on 3:18 thanks to a Callum Fowler goal, but Phoenix hit back and levelled on the Powerplay at 8:56 after Nico Aaltonen was set up by Michal Satek. Bracknell responded just nine seconds later through Josh Smith but Phoenix again tied the scores at 15:42 through Robin Kovar, with Satek again claiming the assist with a feed from behind the net.

The second period belonged to Phoenix, who took the lead for the first time in the game with a rocket from James Neil at 28:18, giving Satek a hat trick of assists. The lead was extended further at 31:54 when Satek scored after some good work from James Archer, as Phoenix went into the locker room with a 4-2 advantage.

The third period saw Phoenix repel a number of Bracknell attacks, before Czech defenceman Jan Platil took a puck to the face from former Phoenix favourite Frankie Bakrlik and had to leave the game. The game then exploded at 51:53 after a clash in the corner, with both Scott Spearing and James Galazzi for Bracknell and Kovar for Phoenix being thrown out of the game. Phoenix netminder Steve Fone turned away 41 shots to cap another excellent performance.

Coach Tony Hand commented: “I thought the boys showed great character in coming from behind twice and we really came alive in the second period when we could have scored more than two goals. We have another tough game against Basingstoke tomorrow but we’ll take plenty of confidence from tonight’s result.”

Phoenix are back in action on Sunday evening when they host the Basingstoke Bison in Deeside with a 6:30pm face-off.
