The Flames are off to the Cup final against Peterborough Phantoms thanks to a nail-biting 4-3 Leg 2 win over Basingstoke Bison. The score converts to a 5-3 aggregate success in the 2 game semi-final series. Entering the evening with a 1-0 aggregate lead, the Flames added to the count just 23 seconds into the closing segment when Jez Lundin put the Flames on the board.

Ben Campbell had a 4 point night and Jez Lundin was the overtime hero as the Flames came back from a deficit after 2 periods for the first time this season while collecting a 4-3 extra time win over the visiting Manchester Phoenix. 24 hours later, with the Flames up 4-2 less than a minute from close, Arnoldas Bosas re-wrote the ending to read as a 5-4 Steeldogs overtime win. He connected for a pair of last minute Sheffield strikes to complete a hat trick before adding his 4th as the extra table point winner.

After 5 goals between the clubs in the opening 24 minutes, the offence went dry for both sides the rest of the way as the Milton Keynes Lightning had the odd goal in the set to collect a 3-2 home win over the visiting Guildford Flames ice hockey team. In the return to Spectrum ice 24 hours later, the Flames let a 2 goal lead slip away when the Lightning scored 3 unanswered in the back half of the game to collect another 3-2 win and a sweep of the weekend head to head series.

The Guildford Flames ice hockey club will take to Spectrum ice on January 27th for the 2nd leg of the cup semi-final holding a 1-0 aggregate lead over the Basingstoke Bison. In a neminding duo, Richard Ullberg posted a 26 save shutout during a 1-0 win in the Hampshire outfit’s building in the opening leg of the 2 game series.

Jens Eriksson and Tom Duggan each had a goal and an assist while a Lee Esders powerplay strike early in the 2nd period was the winner during a 3-1 triumph over the visiting Telford Tigers. A day later, in a penalty heavy 3rd period where the clubs shared 40 minutes, including a stretch with 6 Flames skaters in the box, Spectrum’s men secured the odd goal in 3 to post a 2-1 win during a visit to Bracknell Bees.
