After clawing back a single goal deficit on 3 different occasions to force overtime, and eventually penalties, 3 consecutive strikes by Tuomas Santavuori, Marek Maslonka and Jens Eriksson during the tiebreaking round helped the Flames grab back to back wins with a 4-3 result on the road against Bracknell Bees.

A pair of goals from Tuomas Santavuori and a recovery from a 3rd period 3-1 deficit was not enough to capture a win as the Lightning were able to completely re-store the difference during a 5-3 Milton Keynes home win over the visiting Guildford Flames ice hockey club. Surrey’s side fared no better one evening later when a trio of Hull Pirates goals before the game was 5 minutes old, including a pair in the opening minute, had them holding a commanding lead they would never relinquish during a 4-2 win over the Flames on Spectrum ice.

Despite a relatively even shot count over the course of the evening, a pair of home team goals in each of the 1st and 2nd periods carved a 4-0 hole the Guildford Flames ice hockey club would never crawl out of during a 5-0 loss at Peterborough Phantoms. An early lead and a strong opening period didn’t convert to a win the next night either as the Flames fell to the visiting Telford Tigers by a 4-1 score.

With an extensive practice schedule in the bank after an extra-long off season, Dean Skinns made his return debut with the Flames in his hometown of Basingstoke and shut out the Bison while backing Spectrum’s men to a 2-0 road win. Back to the confines of Spectrum, a massive shot advantage, and territorial dominance all evening, was not enough to help with a follow up win as the Sheffield Steeldogs had the only goal of the evening during a 1-0 defeat of the Flames.

After the Guildford Flames ice hockey club grabbed a 2 goal lead in the opening frame, the Tigers replied with a pair of their own in the middle set before a scoreless 3rd and overtime set up penalties where the only scorer was Matty Davies to help Telford to a 3-2 win over the visiting Surrey group. Matic Kralj netted at 10:19 and Ben Campbell added a powerplay goal at 12:37 to establish the difference. Early in the 2nd, however, the Tigers converted their own man advantage opportunity to cut the lead back to a single thanks to Doug Clarkson.
